🐡 OpenBSD Corner

The OpenBSD side of the BSD house: a small, careful system that ships secure by default. Same tone as the rest of TechCommune: real commands, real output, a joke or two, and honest notes about what was and was not tested.

👋 Coming from Linux? Good, that is the plan. OpenBSD is short on options and long on sensible defaults. These pages show you what is different, tested on OpenBSD 8.0.

How These Pages Work

OpenBSD 8.0. Every command and every piece of output comes from a real run in a virtual machine, so what you see is what you should see.
Honest about gaps. Anything that was not run is marked "from the documentation, not run here".
Safe by design. Install OpenBSD in a virtual machine and break it as often as you like. It installs in minutes.

Where to Go Next

New to the command line altogether? Linux 101 teaches the shared basics. For everyday tools see Command Line Tips. The other BSDs live in the FreeBSD Corner, the OpenBSD Corner and the NetBSD Corner.
